Party Ice

In the middle of winter, after the holidays, I get pretty focused on summer. I miss cookouts and BBQs and summertime cocktails. One of the most important and underappreciated ingredients in a cocktail is ice! In order to keep the ice from melting into a messy bowl of water, the ReadyStrainer directs the melted water into the sink. We've used this setup for ice at kid's parties and adult parties alike. The ReadyStrainer makes a beautiful addition to any cocktail party. Check out our setup for whiskey sours below.  Ice in a ReadyStrainer can also keep your canned or bottled beverages cold! Never have warm beer, ciders or sparkling waters again!   We wish you many happy gatherings through winter, spring and...

Taco Soup

A favorite fall meal of mine is taco soup! It's another quick way to get a hearty and healthy meal on the table for your family. The ReadyStrainer even gets to be used twice for this meal! Bonus! Last year our family signed up to get local grass-fed beef from a friend who raised them himself. This meant we had an entire freezer full of beef all at once. It was immediately obvious we needed a quick, delicious and healthy meal to make using ground beef as easy as possible during those busy weeknights. And everyone in the family needed to love it, as we were going to be eating it often. This is where my love for taco soup blossomed. I...

Black Beans

The ReadyStrainer made its debut into the world just mere months before our son. He’s such a sweet boy full of smiles and definitely keeps us busy. As the months went on, it came time for our new little man to try solid foods! Therefore, most evenings I found myself making fresh foods for him to try. As I tired of mushing squash and carrots, I figured I’d try my hand at cooking black beans. It’s cheaper than canned beans and I have full control over what is included in them.  The first step to delicious black beans is to rinse and pick through a bag of dried beans. All stones need to be removed, as well as any beans...

Caprese Salad

Cherry tomatoes are a fun garden item. We eat them straight off the vine and add them to a variety of salads. Throughout summer our customized version of a caprese salad can often be found on the dinner table. Everyone in the family enjoys this salad and it fits in well with our minimalist-style meals. As fall has quickly come upon us we are eating it just as often, so I am going to share it with you! The ingredients are simple - mozzarella cheese, cucumber, tomato, basil and sometimes a splash of vinegar. I add cucumber to the more traditional caprese salad because it adds a nice crisp texture and stretches the rest of the ingredients for our four-person...

Spaghetti

Of course I have to post about an oldie but goodie – Spaghetti! It is the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of uses for the ReadyStrainer. I grew up during a time when the perfect meal before participating in a high school sporting event was spaghetti. We called it “carbo-loading” and with high school competitions being held several times a week, I ate a large quantity of spaghetti in my youth. To be truthful, I still eat a lot of it. I can't help it! Spaghetti is a family favorite that pleases everyone, including baby E. Spaghetti is one of the quickest and easiest meals around. As I mentioned, we were eating spaghetti so often...
